Migrating a blog to PulseCMS with RapidWeaver

Jul 11, 2016

Moving a blog from one system to a new system would normally be something to tackle with caution and expect problems. However, I just moved from an Armadillo blog to the new Instacks supported PulseCMS blog and it went impressively quickly and without a single incident. I.e. this blog you are now reading.

Armadillo had been a great blog and once setup it worked without incident and the support from Nimblest was as good as it gets. However, I wanted to take advantage of the some of the new fetures in PulseCMS and was also curious to see if it was as good as all the reports suggested. Setting up was nothing more than a few minutes from beginning to end. When you download the PulseCMS you get a folder of files which needs a couple of folder names updated using a text editor and you enter your PulseCMS serial number and choose a password. The easiest way to install it I found, is to just drag the folder to your server root with an FTP program. Done! The PulseCMS is now setup. There is no further work required and with over 4000 blogs out in the wild you are tapping into an established and mature CMS Blogging system with the wrinkles already ironed out.

To create a bog in RapidWeaver, you simply create a new RW page and insert the Instacks Pulse Blog List stack and another hidden RW page with the Instacks Pulse Blog Post, add a return button and you are done. Into each of the Instacks settings add the folder name where your Pulse installation. The setup is now complete and ready to publish.

That really is it. To login you can use the new Pulse Launcher App (a new mobile version will also be available soon). Otherwise just use a browser to go to your Admin page and login with the password you setup.

The extra fetures I mentioned are a fully featured Contact Form, a Newsletter Signup, a CMS Slider, a CMS Gallery and CMS images and text. In addition there is CMS access to the bursting with features, Gallery3 gallery & slideshow. Did I mention the auto backups and the inbuilt Stats page?

Armadillo is very impressive and works well but the new PulseCMS adds extra features that propel it into a different level of features. Check it out if you need this sort of functionality. Instacks PulseCMS
